From Regency to Modernism: British Furniture and Its Global Reach

In the 19th century, Britain stood as a dominant force on the world stage; a status reflected not only in its political and economic power but also in its furniture design. This online course explores the global reach of British design during this period and into the twentieth century, focusing on influential figures such as Augustus Welby Pugin and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It will also examine how British designers such as Daniel Cottier and Duncan Phyfe carried their aesthetic ideals abroad, and how international designers engaged with, adapted, and reinterpreted these creative influences within their own cultural contexts.

Tickets may be bought for individual sessions or the entire course, but you will benefit from a discount if all four sessions are bought together. These sessions will be recorded and links to these recordings will be sent to ticket holders. These recordings will not be available to buy after the course has ended. FHS members and ECD members will benefit from a discount on all tickets.
