A two-day study trip to Amsterdam is being organised to visit the exhibition At Home in the 17th Century, at the Rijksmuseum (17 October 2025 - 11 January 2026). The exhibition is curated by Sara van Dijk, Curator of Textiles at the Rijksmuseum. Members may recall that Sara spoke at this year’s FHS Annual Symposium, The Art of the Dolls’ House. Highlights of the visit will include a curator-led tour of the exhibition with time for discussion, visits to one or two canal houses, and a city walk through Amsterdam led by Alexander Dencher, Curator of Furniture at the Rijksmuseum.
To register your interest, please contact the Overseas Events Manager at overseasevents@furniturehistorysociety.org.
The trip coincides with an international symposium on Thursday, 8 January, the day before our trip, entitled Exhibiting the domestic past, which members might wish to book independently (tickets available from the Rijksmuseum website). The symposium will explore the questions raised by the exhibition and is co-organised by Sara van Dijk.
