Friday, 17 April - Sunday, 19 April 2020
2020 will mark the 150 anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. To mark the occasion, the museum will re-open its completely re-modelled British Galleries. The FHS will be given a private tour of the new space by the galleries' newly appointed curator, Wolf Burchard.
We will also visit the Eileen Gray: Perpetual Movement exhibition curated by Cloé Pitiot (curator at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris) at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery. Eileen Gray was a pioneer in modern design and architecture and one of the few women to practise professionally in those fields before World War II. This exhibition is the first in the United States to examine the total oeuvre of Eileen Gray. The exhibition features never-before-seen furniture and lacquer works, as well as photography, rugs, and archival material from her best-known projects.
Other visits during the Study Trip include to Carlton Hobbs Gallery which specializes in the acquisition, conservation, and research of 17th, 18th and 19th century British and Continental furniture and works of art. Also some Private collections.
