Tom Ingram (1913-1990), a distinguished archivist,
was one of the founders of the Furniture History Society, serving
on its Council from 1965 to 1968 and as President from 1979 until
his death in 1990. The Fund established in his memory awards grants
towards travel and other incidental expenses for the purpose of study
or research research into the history of furniture (a) whether or
not the applicant is a member of the Society, (b) only when the study
or research is likely to be of importance in furthering the objectives
of the Society, and (c) only when travel could not be undertaken
without a grant from the Society.
The Oliver Ford Trust, endowed under the will of Oliver Ford (1925-1992),
an internationally famous interior decorator, supports the Tom
Ingram Fund by sponsoring places for younger scholars on the Society’s
study weekends and foreign tours. The Tom Ingram Fund Panel advises
on the allocation of grants.
Readers are especially reminded that applications towards the cost
of FHS foreign and domestic trips and study weekends are especially
welcome from scholars. Successful applicants are required to acknowledge
the assistance of the Fund in any resulting publications and must
report back to the panel on completion of the travel or project.
