Home of the Gage family for 500 years

Firle Place, Sussex has been the home of the Gage family for 500 years, its medieval core was extended by 1543 by Sir John Gage, trusted counsellor of Henry VIII, built of Caen stone and remodelled in the 18th century providing is current façade and remarkable architectural features, such as its rare Serlian window. Firle houses part of the celebrated Cowper collection from Panshanger, Herts, together with works of art from the Melbourne collection, and Grenfell collection from Taplow Court, Berks, and the Gage family itself. Furniture highlights will include a pair of Georgian gilded console tables supported by foxes, the Panshanger Cabinets by Chippendale from Melbourne House, Piccadilly and other examples of French and English furniture. The tour will be guided by Deborah Gage, curator of the collection.

£65, places limited to 20 members which will be allocated by ballot.
